Can I Wear Contact Lenses?

Can I Wear Contact Lenses?

/

Considering making the switch from eyeglasses? Asking yourself: who can wear contact lenses or will contact lenses work for me? Well, we’re going to make this super-simple for you.

If you have healthy eyes and can maintain basic hygiene standards, guess what? You can wear contact lenses – even if you have mild astigmatism!

There’s no age limit, either. The only requisite is that you can take responsibility for your eyes and wear your lenses safely and sensibly (or, if you’re a young teen, have an adult who can support you).

Ready to revolutionize your life with daily disposable contact lenses? We’re so excited for you! Here’s why contact lenses are a flexible, practical, safe and comfortable choice.

Will contact lenses work for me?

Wearing contacts may seem daunting but once you get used to them, they are the key to a more fulfilling, spontaneous and freeing lifestyle.

Contacts set you free

Where eyeglasses prove to be impractical or inconvenient, daily disposable contacts set you free. That means no more sliding off your nose when you get sweaty exercising or going about your daily business in the rain. No more steaming up when you open the oven door! And no more worrying about whether your specs will get knocked off when you’re at a gig or playing sport.

See more, live more

Contact lenses provide better peripheral vision because the lens is in direct contact with the eye. This gets rid of that annoying view of the edge of your eyeglass frame, freeing up a wider field of vision.

Safe and convenient

Daily disposables mean you get a fresh new pair of lenses every day. There’s no need to clean them or store them in messy fluids. Less interference means lower risk of infection, so they’re the healthiest and safest option

Comfortable and hydrating

We’ve developed a unique contact lens edge design that provides you with all-day comfort. Our Soft-Edge technology allows your eyelids to glide smoothly over the lenses when wearing them. The fact that they’re 58% water and made of a flexible hydrogel material means they’re super-comfy to wear, as well as keeping your eyes hydrated.

Easy to insert

They’re oh-so-easy to insert, too. Even though they’re ultra-thin, our lenses are always located in the blister pack in the same way. This means they’re never folded, thanks to our innovative INPAC technology. All you need to do is ‘scoop’ them onto the soft tip of your finger for confident handling and easy onto-eye insertion, every time.

Affordable and flexible

Once you’ve had a thorough eye examination and correct fitting with your eyecare provider, you’re free to purchase your daily disposable contact lenses with us online. All you need is your prescription. We cut out the middle man, providing you with incredible-value, high-quality daily disposable contact lenses delivered straight to your door.

Who can wear contact lenses?

Just about everyone can wear contacts, even if you have mild astigmatism. It’s a huge misconception that if you have astigmatism you can’t wear contacts, but this is just a myth that keeps getting perpetuated.

daysoft® lenses have a spherical design so, at present, a Toric version to correct severe astigmatism is not available. If you’ve been prescribed Toric design contact lenses, we won’t be able to supply replacement lenses.

What age can you wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses are available to everyone, regardless of their age. However, they're best for those who are serious about looking after their eyes. You must be able to follow basic hygiene advice.

Some children may wear contact lenses, but with correct adult supervision to ensure they are being sensible and not damaging their eyes.

Who can’t wear contacts?

Wearing contact lenses isn’t a problem for the majority of us, but there are a few conditions that may make it difficult.

Your eye care provider will perform a comprehensive eye examination and run certain tests to check whether contact lenses will work for you.

Contact lenses are not advisable for those who have a history of recurrent eye infections, such as blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelids. This is because lenses may worsen the condition and lead to long-term damage if not managed correctly.

Contact lenses may not be a great choice for those who suffer from chronic dry eye syndrome. Dry eyes mean contacts may feel quite uncomfortable and result in making the condition worse.

Having severe eye allergies may also create problems wearing contact lenses.

How to choose contact lenses

There are many different types of contact lenses available, catering for a wide range of eye conditions and lifestyles. Whether you are far-sighted, near-sighted or have mild astigmatism, get a prescription from your eye doctor first before making your decision. Here are a few tips on how to choose the right contact lenses for you.

Prepare for your eye appointment

If you wear eye makeup, we recommend leaving it off for your eye examination. That means losing the liner, skipping the mascara and saying no to shadow so your doctor can see every part of your eye clearly. Don’t forget your current pair of prescription eyeglasses!

Understand the process

Here’s how your appointment will go. It’s not at all scary and not much different to your usual eye exam.

  • Your eye doctor will take a case history, do a general exam and ask about your lifestyle.
  • They’ll pop some lenses in your eye.
  • You stick around to let them settle.
  • Your doctor will make sure you’re comfortable, check your vision and teach you how to put them in and out.

Decide which lens is best for you

Based upon the clinical examination and any tests, your practitioner will select the best material for your eyes.
